Brunch and a visit to Meiji Shrine
Today dawned drizzly and dismal, but Okia and I stuck to our guns and met for brunch near Omate Sando, an area of the city lined with designer stores. After foregoing Japanese cuisine for coconut french toast with almond butter (yummmm! So much for my lofty goals of a healthier lifestyle after moving to Japan:S) we marched around some of the stores, window shopping and catching up on the past year, and comparing notes on Wednesday, Okia's cat who was under my custody until a couple of months ago . We then decided on a quick visit to the Meiji Shrine, a Shinto place of worship located within a beautiful wooded area, a real surprise in this city where space is at such a premium. We made it back just in time for the 4:00 service at Tokyo Union Church where I bid Okia farewell.
Below are some photos of the shrine:
Barrels of Sake on the way to the shrine. . . an offering?

Coconut French toast with almond butter? When can I catch the next flight, LOL! That sounds very tasty.
I don't know if you're into mystery/thriller type stuff, but if so, Mo Hayder wrote one a couple of years ago called The Devil of Nanking (the British title is Tokyo). It's on the grizzly side, but her descriptions of darker side of Japan are very good.
How was church? And was it in English or Japanese?
Outlaw. . . I'll definitely try to find it, though I hope it doesn't scare me too much.
Craver, church was ok. It was an expat church, so was in English. The teaching didn't do too much for me. I think I'm going to go church-hopping during the first few weeks to find one I really like, though unfortunately, I'm limited by the language.
Coconut French toast with almond butter certainly sounds like MY idea of health food. Very nice photos - the shrine looks fascinating.
